Find the courage to be extraordinary . . .

Ema Vašková has always felt different. In a family of famous scientists, there’s not much room for superstition or omens – but they seem to follow Ema wherever she goes. It doesn’t help that she appears to predict events before they happen, and has a peculiar fear of shadows . . .

When Ema is sent to stay with her eccentric uncle in Prague, she fears she’ll lose the chance to ever fit in. But then she meets Silvie – a girl who finally sees Ema for the extraordinary person that she is. Soon the girls are meeting for secret midnight adventures, and facing Ema’s fears together.

But then disaster strikes. Silvie goes missing – and it’s up to Ema to find her. Now she must gather the courage to hunt the city, find her friend, and uncover the secrets of the one clue Silvie left as to where she might be – inside the mysterious Midnight Guild . .

This book was brilliant!

I liked how we were introduced to all of Ema’s family before they all left the house two by two, I did feel sorry for Ema, I left like she was passed on to the next person in line…. Why did her Mom or Dad not want to spend time with her 😦

I liked seeing how Ema changed as she got to know Silvie, I really like Silvie, she’s so quirky! And she helped Ema believe in herself. I also loved the cat-beast he always made me smile with his mischievous ness.

This is must read book filled with friendship, adventure, magic and mystery. This is the first book I have read by this author, her other book The Unadoptables will be going on my birthday list, that’s for sure!!

*** Mums thoughts *** This book is stunning! I’m not sure which I liked more, the book cover or the jackets, both have such detail! And the inside is just as beautiful, each chapter has a lovely little illustration, something so simple has added the wow factor.

The story is wonderful, had Lily-May asking for one more page are we had read our nightly chapter, and I must admit even I wanted a few more pages too! A wonderful middle grade book that would keep any child reading past their bedtime 😉
