Title: Perfectly Norman
Author & Illustrator: Tom Percival
Publisher: Bloomsbury
mini obc about the book1
Norman had always been perfectly normal. That was until the day he
grew a pair of wings!
Norman is very surprised to have wings suddenly – and he has the most
fun ever trying them out high in the sky. But then he has to go in for
dinner. What will his parents think? What will everyone else think?
Norman feels the safest plan is to cover his wings with a big coat.
But hiding the thing that makes you different proves tricky and upsetting.
Can Norman ever truly be himself?
A poignant yet uplifting story about individuality, with stunning artwork
in a striking minimal palette from the author/illustrator of Herman’s
Letter. Fans of Oliver Jeffers and Benj Davies will love it.

First off, can we just say how brilliantly bright, colourful and spangly this cover is!!
Just look at it!

This story is the sweetest book ever!  A story about teaching children to be themselves, be who they are and not mingle into the crowd….. Because being you is the very best thing.

Norman isn’t happy until he grows his beautiful wings but then is frightened about people will say, on these pages the illustrations are coloured grey and look sad, an amazing job by Tom. It made those parts of the story sad a gloomy but once Norman has his wings on show all the colours come out and the story starts to bloom. Everyone in the world need to have their wings on show!

Lily-May loved to see Norman flying in the book, she then ran around the room with her arms stretched out pretending to fly! Its safe to say that she loved the book, we read it umpteen times before bed for the last few nights and probably for the next few nights to come.

We cant wait to see what Tom throws at us next, you’ve set the bar high for the next book and cover…….no pressure!!

Malcolm doesn’t like animals.

Which is a problem because his family love them. Their house is full of pets. What the house is NOT full of is stuff Malcolm likes. Such as the laptop he wanted for his birthday.

The only bright spot on the horizon is the Year Six school trip, which Malcolm never thought his parents would pay for. And yet there he is, on the bus, heading to… oh no. A farm.

Over the next days, Malcolm changes. He learns a lot about animals. More, in many ways, than he would like. He learns what it’s really like to be an animal. A whole series of animals, in fact…

It does make him think differently. And speak differently. And eat differently. And, um, smell differently. But will he end up the same as before?

Because sometimes the hardest thing to become is… yourself.

A story about Malcolm and his animal obsessed family. Now being animal obsessed is ok, unless your’e Malcolm. You see, Malcolm has a dislike for animals (crazy i know) but each to their own. So you can imagine the horror when he finds out that his year 6 school trip is to……THE FARM!!!
Now you have to feel sorry for poor Malcolm at this point, the poor boy has to spend the next few days surrounded by the thing he dislikes most in his life BUT how will he feel once hes spent a few days AS the animals?! Yep poor Malcolm somehow ends up as the animals… looks… smells… acts like all the different animals hes surrounded by, at the end of the trip will Malcom become his animal disliking self or a new animal loving Malcolm? Only a read of this book will tell you because we definitely wont spoil this must read book for you!
Have a sneak peek on what Animalcolm is all about with this fab book trailer….
This book had me in fits of laughter, at one point i asked my Mum ‘Could you imagine being a Cat or a Monkey?! Might be fun at first until it comes to bath time!’ made me think for a second until i saw our own cat having a wash!
It was an easy read, easy to get into and easy to pick up again once i had put it down. The little drawings kept me entertained and my little sister (aged 2 ) made all the animal noises along the way. I also enjoyed the numbered after thoughts at the bottom of the pages, i also love to know if penguins can understand pigeon?!?
I would definitely recommend it to all my friends (both boys and girls as its certainly one for them all) and I’ve also asked if i can get David’s other books for Christmas!

HOUSE OF SECRETS follows three siblings and their family as they are forced to move to a mysterious new house in San Francisco and end up embarking on a journey to retrieve a dark book of untold power. The first story in an epic fantasy adventure trilogy!

When Brendan, Cordelia and Nell move to Kristoff House they have no idea that they are about to unleash the dark magic locked within. For the house once belonged to a crazed writer, whose stories have come to life. Literally. Now the Walker kids must battle against deadly pirates, bloodthirsty warriors and a bone-crunching giant. If they fail they will never see their parents again and a power-mad Witch will take over the world. No pressure then . . .

House of Secrets is the first book in a major new series. IT’S GOING TO BE EPIC!

Thrilling heart-stopping adventure for three ordinary kids Brandon, Cordelia and Eleanor. Will their life get be any different after they have just moved to San Francisco? Will they be able to stop the power from within the crome woman who gave the Walkers a very weird welcoming.

This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time! Its a chunky book so not for the faint hearted that’s for sure.
The part of the book I enjoy the most is when Brandon, Cordelia and Eleanor go on their exciting adventures and meet lots of new friends.
A brilliant motto that the authors Chris Columbus and Ned Vizzini
‘Homework can wait. It`s time to save the world`
Many exciting things happen in this house such as finding things that no one even knew were there.
When Eleanor does something that changes their life, will it stay that way forever or will it end?!?
Its fast paced and action packed, with twists and turns….. some you see coming and some you don’t!! With Pirates, Withces & Ghosts there’s something for everyone.
Can the Walker children save the world. Find out in this brilliant exciting amazing book.

***Mums note*** The back of this book states it is for 9+ readers. When Amy-Lee read some of the book to me I was a little worried that parts would frighten her, I think aged 9 is a little low for this type of book.

This book is guaranteed to have the kids…… and adults giggling the whole way through! The story is about Pod, a cave boy how hates his stone underpants, and who can blame him?!

He spends the story creating different pants made out of different things, my personal favourite were the mud pants! Each pants are put through Pod’s tests to find out which are the best.

This story has become a family favourite in our house. Lily-May enjoys pointing out the different animals in the book and i expect a giggle or two every time i say bottom.

Its a fun read with beautiful illustrations, its also bright and colourful which keeps Lily-May’s concentration (always a bonus in my book!)
